Counsellor and Counselling Psychologist; THEY ARE NOT THE SAME.

Too many mental health professionals get confused with their own titles. If we hope for the public to know and accept what we do, WE MUST FIRST ACCEPT WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO IN THIS FIELD. Every one of us here plays a role. We do not and cannot cater to all types of clientele. That's the reason why we have different training pathways.

Counsellor mainly addresses clients' emotional and relationship issues through talk therapy and skills development. This is highly emphasized in their trainings.

Counseling psychologist primarily treats clients with mental health conditions, from mild to moderate severity. They may also be involved in research and teaching. We need to know what our limit is.

Just because we deal with similar clientele, it doesn't give us any right to do what is beyond our capacity. It would be similar if I as a clinical psychologist starts to prescribe medication because I had a module during my training, thus taking over the role of psychiatrist. So I urge all of those who are unsure of their titles, please do relevant research and OWN WHAT YOU ATTAIN.
