06.10.2021 My Experience as an IYRES Enumerator Community🤍💜

Two weeks ago after I ended my internship, I was selected to join Institute For Youth Research Malaysia (IYRES) for their youth research to serve as an enumerator.

Today is my last day involving for the event. The overall fieldwork was at Kampung Sementa Klang as it's required by Indeks Belia Malaysia 2021. The research study was about measuring the quality level and well-being of Malaysian youth. Overally, the work wasn't as easy as I thought it would be because it's not only physically challenging but at the same time mentally exhausting especially during such pandemic period.

For the past 2 weeks, I went to Kampung Sementa and collected data from house to house because the job requirement is to collect resident's data on the pre-given questionnaires set in the device. It's like a bancian I would say but the different part was every respondent need around 30-50 minutes time to answer the questions. Things get even harder when I have to find respondents from different races such as Bumiputera lain, Sabah/Sarawak, Cina and India currently staying in Kampung Sementa where the majority residents here are Malay.

Basically, the questionnaire contains 8 different sections involving Demographic, Education, Economy, Wellbeing, Sociology, Identiti & Value, Media & Citizenship and privacy acknowledgment. It's really challenging to find a respondent that can give full cooperation and understand the significance of this research.

Everyday I have to travel 20 minutes from my house just to find a respondent but every single day I only managed to find less than 5 respondents to help me with this research. From one block/row of houses I only managed to get 2-3 people to respond and most of them do not even answer me. I understand the situation with the pandemic and the trust issues where the people tend to be aware and concern of their health and their personal data. I didn't blame them and for the respondent who did help and cooperate with me, I really really appreciate and can't thank you isn't enough to show my gratitude towards your aid.

But Allhamdullilah I managed to finish the task on time. I am truly thankful for this experience even though I almost give up during my second day because I walked almost 1 hour but there's no one willing to "open the door for me". Volunteerism and community well-being is my passion and I believe this is the least I can do to serve the community.

Currently I'm also a volunteer for Hari Kesihatan Mental Sedunia 2021 and I really need your help to support our program which is Chitchat Kesihatan Mental. Do follow our telegram channel for more info about the event and mental health.
